If you are looking to:

  • Protect the cells of your body

  • Slow down the effects of aging

  • Protect yourself from diseases linked to low intake of antioxidants, then… start taking NutriaPlus today!

What is NutriaPlus?

NutriaPlus is a highly concentrated antioxidant supplement containing a unique combination of twelve synergistic natural ingredients. Each serving of NutriaPlus provides the antioxidants and phytonutrients from plant extracts, vitamins, and minerals. Moreover, it includes organically bound selenium called „SelenoExcell“ (the brand of selenium studied in the Nutritional Prevention of Cancer Study by the University of Arizona).

What are “antioxidants?”

Antioxidants help protect every cell and membrane in our body from the damaging effects of daily life and help prevent health conditions that result from accumulated damage from oxidation. For example, science has been looking at the ability of antioxidants to prevent cancer and heart disease, boost the immune system, and slow the Ageing process. Many leading scientists and healthcare practitioners are convinced that increasing your intake of antioxidants can result in a major improvement in health and increased longevity.

Can I take Intra and NutriaPlus together?

Of course! In fact, this is encouraged, especially since NutriaPlus was tested and developed to complement Intra. By taking both Intra and NutriaPlus together, you capitalize on numerous synergistic interactions, including an increased ORAC value (a measure of antioxidant capacity), increased effectiveness, and increased health benefits!

The Antioxidant Power Of Intra And NutriaPlus

On a standardized scale, the power of Intra and NutriaPlus together produce a Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) of 1501. TAC measures the power of an antioxidant based on its ability to neutralize free radicals. Higher TAC levels equal stronger antioxidant capacity.

How was NutriaPlus developed and formulated?

Using the zebrafish research model Lifestyles set out to find the most powerful combination of natural ingredients that would help humans in the following four categories: • Preventing abnormal cell growth (cancer) • Enhance tissue repair (help the body recover from injury) • Reduce inflammation in the body (root cause of many diseases) • Protect the cells from the damage caused by environmental pollution and sun exposure The result is… NutriaPlus!

Why are zebrafish used for human health research?

The zebrafish genetic structure is incredibly close to humans. They share 70% of genes with us and more than 80% of the genes associated with human diseases. They also have many of the same organs and tissues as humans. Their muscle, blood, skin, brain, heart, and eyes share many features with humans. Researchers can easily expose the fish to the drug or nutrient being tested simply by putting it in the water – the zebrafish absorb it through their skin and the effects can be quickly observed. Remember, the results observed in the zebrafish will also be observed in humans – this is a very reliable method of determining what will benefit human health

What human diseases are zebrafish being used to study?

Zebrafish are used to study many different cancers, blood diseases, diabetes, heart disease, brain health and to discover new medicines and the causes and possible cures for many human diseases.

Why should you take NutriaPlus?

• You don’t get your 5 – 7 daily servings of fruits and vegetables

• You don’t eat a balanced diet

• You skip meals

• You often eat-out at fast food restaurants

• You have stress in your life

• You live in a polluted environment

What is the best time to take NutriaPlus?

NutriaPlus capsules should always be taken with a meal as vitamins and minerals, as well as certain phytonutrients are better absorbed by the body when a small amount of fat is present.

Do I still need to eat fresh fruits and vegetables?

Absolutely! NutriaPlus is not intended to replace fresh fruits and vegetables but to help supplement the important nutrients provided in them. It is well recognized, that the majority of people do not consume the suggested servings of these foods on a daily basis. In addition, due to modern farming methods, the nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables have been compromised due to depleted soil, pesticides, and unripe picking. However, fresh fruits and vegetables also provide dietary fiber and water, two important elements for good health.

How to Relieve Heartburn – Part 1

Heartburn is extremely uncomfortable yet extremely common, and the causes are not always clear. For some people, heartburn may be attributed to certain foods or eating habits, for others heartburn may be attributed to tight clothing, excess weight, or smoking. There are also many different ways to relieve heartburn, from changing your eating habits, adopting a new sleeping position, and trying over the counter or prescription medicines. Keep reading to learn more about how to relieve heartburn.

Part 1 Changing Your Eating Habits and Changing Bad Habits

Pay attention to the foods that cause heartburn for you. While there are some common foods that cause heartburn, everyone has different trigger foods. Keep track of the foods that seem to cause heartburn for you and try to avoid or at least limit your intake of those foods.Try keeping a food diary to help you keep track of the foods that cause you heartburn. Common heartburn trigger foods include peppermint, caffeine, sodas, chocolate, citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, onions, and high-fat foods.

1  Quit smoking. Not only does smoking cause cancer and many other health problems, it may also be the cause of your heartburn. Smoking has been linked with heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

2 Stop eating a bad food and alcohol at least three hours before bedtime. Plan to have your last meal of the day at least three hours before bedtime, since your body requires about two hours to digest the food that you have eaten. If you lay down while there is still food in your stomach, you have a higher chance of getting heartburn.

3 Eat your food slowly. One study found that eating your food too quickly can increase the risk of heartburn. People who eat their food too fast are also more likely to suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as GERD. Take your time while you are eating to eliminate fast eating as a factor in your heartburn. Try putting down your fork between bites and chewing your food more to help slow yourself down while you eat.

4 Drink a glass of low-fat or skim milk as a snack between meals. The calcium in milk can act as a temporary acid buffer, which may help to relieve your heartburn. Keep in mind that the effects of drinking milk are only temporary, so you may need to use other methods to help stave off heartburn. A cup of yogurt might provide the same benefit as drinking milk, helping to relieve heartburn.

5 Chew a piece of sugar-free gum after meals. Chewing gum causes your mouth to produce more saliva, which acts as an acid buffer. While you chew gum you also swallow more often, pushing acid back down into your stomach. Chew a piece of gum for 30 minutes after each meal to help relieve heartburn symptoms.

6 Sip a cup of herbal tea after meals. Some studies have found that chamomile and licorice tea are effective against heartburn symptoms when taken after a meal. Chamomile and licorice both have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be why they help to relieve heartburn for some people. Try both kinds of tea to see if either one works for you. Ginger has also been found effective against heartburn. You can make your own ginger tea by adding a few slices of fresh ginger to boiling water. Cover the water and allow the ginger to steep for 30 minutes before drinking. For best results, drink ginger tea about 20 minutes before a meal. Be aware that licorice should not be used long term because it contains a chemical called glycyrrhizin, which can cause tissue swelling and high blood pressure. As with any herbal medicine, talk to your doctor first.

7 Try Intra Herbal Juice 20 minutes before meals and when a Heartburn occurs

  • Tips
Try eating an apple or banana every day. These fruits contain natural antacids that may help relieve your heartburn over time.
  • Try apple cider vinegar. Some people find relief by drinking a mixture of 1 tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water before each meal.
  • Try either an aspirin or roll-aids. Snacking on carrots may help. Carrots contain alkaline compounds that help neutralize the acids in your throat.

8 Lose weight. Being overweight is thought to be a contributor to heartburn because the excess fat on your abdomen puts pressure on your stomach and may force your stomach contents back up into your esophagus. Studies have shown that a drastic weight loss is not necessary to help relieve heartburn caused by being overweight. Even a small weight loss, 5 to 10% of your body weight, may help relieve your heartburn. To lose weight, try to limit calories to 1800 to 2000 kcal a day, while also exercising for 30 minutes five times per week. You can use a fitness tracker or application to log your food and keep track of your activity.

9 Wear loose fitting clothing. Tight pants and belts may be contributing to your heartburn by causing too much pressure on your abdomen and causing your stomach contents to back up. Make sure that your pants fit comfortably and that you do not wear your belt too tight. Choose clothing that is a size too big or that has an elastic waistband if your heartburn is severe.

10  Change your usual sleeping position. If you often suffer from nighttime heartburn, there are two positions that seem to be the most effective against heartburn: sleeping on your left side and sleeping with your upper body elevated. Try one or both of these sleep positions to see if either one helps to relieve your heartburn. Sleeping on your left side helps aid digestion. Try sleeping on your left side if elevating your upper body does not seem to help.

11 Relax every day. Stress may contribute to your heartburn symptoms by causing your stomach to produce more stomach acid. Incorporating relaxation techniques into your daily routine, especially after you eat, may help to relieve heartburn. Try meditation, yoga, massage, Intra, aromatherapy, deep breathing, or something else to help yourself relax every day.

  • Warnings
When heartburn symptoms become severe, keep you up at night, or occur at least twice a week, you may have Acid Reflux Disease. If not controlled, this can lead to esophageal cancer.
  • Chronic use of Proton Pump inhibitors may be associated with a slight increase in risk of bone fracture and vitamin B-12 deficiency.
  • If you are having chest pain and you think that you might be having a heart attack, seek medical attention immediately.
  • Heartburn, also known as acid indigestion, is a burning sensation in the central chest or upper central abdomen. The pain[citation needed] often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. Heartburn is usually due to regurgitation of gastric acid (gastric reflux) into the esophagus and is the major symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease
(GERD). In about 0.6% of cases it is a symptom of ischemic heart disease.

How to Unblock Fallopian Tubes Naturally Part 2

Almost 40% of infertility cases account from blocked fallopian tubes. Very often, only one of the fallopian tubes is blocked, with the other functioning normally. However, some women may have bilaterally blocked fallopian tubes too. Since blocked fallopian tubes are usually asymptomatic, they may go undetected until a woman is unable to conceive, and undergoes investigations to determine the reason for infertility. Most of the cases of blocked fallopian tubes are reversible and can be cured with medications naturally.  Get started on one or more of the following natural measures and remedies to unblock your fallopian tubes successfully.

  1. Take vitamin C supplements. Vitamin C is required for the absorption of iron. In addition, it boosts immunity and fights infections. If your fallopian tube blockages are due to infections or inflammation, vitamin C may help clear them. Start by taking 1000mg vitamin C supplements 5-6 times a day. Vitamin C especially helps clear fallopian blocks due to mycobacterium tuberculosis. However, if you experience diarrhea or any other complaints because of this supplement, reduce your dosage or stop completely. And pay a visit to your doctor!
  2. Rely on herbs. Certain herbs can help to kill any bacteria like yeast that may cause infection or prevent fertility. Prominent amongst these herbs are Dong Quai, chamomile, garlic, oleander, turmeric, red peony root, frankincense and calendula. Any qualified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) expert can decide your dosage thorough examination. Research conducted on the red peony root has shown to be rich in anti-oxidants. As we have seen above, this is probably the reason why it is prescribed in TCM to cure blocked fallopian tubes. There are various combinations of such drugs available as herbal drinks, infusions or supplements. One should not consume any of them without consulting a doctor or a skilled expert in the field and not fall far “miraculous” unverified claims. Try long term usage of Intra Lifestyles – save and great tasting.
  3. Try herbal tampons. Various herbal tampons are available for the treatment of blocked fallopian tubes. These are tampons soaked in herbs, which help regulate the reproductive organs. However, use of this method should always be with extreme caution, as the tampons are not always sterile, and could lead to infections. In addition, these herbs, when taken orally, produce the same medicinal effects.
    • Goldenseal root works as an anti-microbial agent, and reduces inflammation and infections, and subsequently prevents scarring and adhesions.
    • Ginger root improves circulation, thus reducing inflammation and blocks. Hawthorn and Uva Ursi help reduce congestion and excess body fluids, thus clearing fallopian blocks due to fluid or blood collection.
    • Dong Quai, a Chinese, herb helps release spasms in the fallopian tubes.
  4. Apply castor oil. Application of castor oil is believed to help with blocked fallopian tubes by increasing blood and lymphatic circulation around the fallopian tubes. The increased blood supply helps with better functioning and removal of blocks from your tubes, while the lymphatics help remove old cells, scar tissue, and diseased cells.
    • You could apply castor oil directly on the lower abdomen or you may even use castor oil soaked packs and tissues that are easily available online and in herbal stores. You need to do this daily for at least 1-2 months for good results.
  5. Consider using charcoal poultices. An activated charcoal poultice when applied over the lower abdomen directly above your uterus and fallopian tubes helps treat infections and reduce inflammation. You can even prepare these poultices at home. Here’s how:
    • Place a few paper towels on a tabletop.
    • Place a mixture of activated charcoal and flaxseeds onto the towels and cover it with more paper towels.
    • Place this poultice on the affected area and cover it with a plastic wrap. Use these poultices overnight for better results.
  6. Look into enzymes like serrapeptase. This therapy uses natural enzymes produced by your body to dissolve scar tissues and prevent fibrosis. Enzymes also reduce inflammation and regulate blood flow to the reproductive organs.[3] Serrapeptase is a widely-used enzyme for this purpose.
    • Serrapeptase in silkworms helps dissolve their cocoons due to its tissue break down properties. Supplements and other multi-enzyme preparations such as Wobenzym N and Advil are available over the counter. However, always speak to your doctor before taking these enzymes in case you have some underlying medical condition.
  7. Consider homeopathy. This holistic science cures effectively with minimum or no side effects. Many remedies in the homeopathy pharmacopeia are helpful in the treatment of blocked tubes and infertility. Some of the remedies you may use are as follows:
    • Pulsatilla nigricans: It is indicated for fallopian blockages with menstrual irregularities and mood swings. Pulsatilla 30 taken twice a day for 2-3 months could help regulate your menstrual cycle and remove fallopian blocks.
    • Sepia: It is a homeopathic remedy indicated for menstrual irregularities, painful menses, pain in the vagina with a bearing down feeling, and repeated miscarriages due to fallopian blockages. Sepia 30 thrice a day for 2-3 months should help relieve your symptoms.
    • Thyroidinum: If you have thyroid disorders along with fallopian blocks, or lethargy with sluggishness and tendency to gain weight, thyroidinum 30 twice a day could help you considerably.
    • Natrum Muriaticum: It helps women who have recurrent headaches, especially after exposure to sunlight, and a craving for salty and sour food items. Fallopian tube blocks with delayed menses, bloating of abdomen with gas, and headaches are an indication for natrum muriaticum. Take 200 twice a day for 2- 3 months.

How to Unblock Fallopian Tubes Naturally Part 1

  • Getting Rid of Stressors Quit smoking and drinking. Smoking and alcohol are two of the prime causative factors for such diseases and cessation. However, it’s not enough to reduce your consumption — it’s best to quit altogether. Smoking and drinking, apart from the health of your fallopian tubes, is not good for your body, organs, skin, hair, teeth, or nails. Quitting these habits will improve your life quality overall.

  • Meditate. Meditation helps in reducing your stress levels which in turn promotes healing and overall good body health. Ideally, it would be most beneficial to begin your day with 10-15 minutes of meditation or mental relaxation techniques with breathing exercises. Even just a few minutes of finding your zen ensures a positive start to the day and makes you more capable to handle the stress throughout the day. Less stress means lesser worsening of the inflammation that’s blocking the tubes.

  • Breathe deeply and take up yoga Yoga is known to channelize the energies of your body in a harmonious way and bring about greater healing potential. The 2 asanas that would help promote fertility in women are Setu bandhasana and Viparita Karani, two poses that utilize the gluteal and pelvic muscles. To do this first pose (the “supported bridge pose”), lie on your back with the knees folded and use your muscles to lift your pelvis off the floor. Inhale as you lift the pelvis off the floor and bring it down as you exhale after a pause of 2 seconds. Viparita Karani or the “legs on wall pose” is another asana from the traditional Indian system of Yoga that helps improve blockages of the fallopian tubes. It involves lying on the back in contact with a wall on your side, while raising your leg of that same side straight up against the wall at a 90° angle. After a small pause of 2 seconds, bring it back down slowly.

  • Consider fertility massage. Massaging the abdomen, a technique used by natural healers, could help unblock your tubes and improve their general health and functioning. Massage improves the blood circulation in and around the tubes, resulting in break-up of scar tissues and adhesions and decrease in inflammation.[1] You can perform this therapy on your own:

Lie down on an exercise mat with your face upwards and a pillow below your lower back.

Relax and apply almond, olive, or lavender oil on your hands and massage over your pubic bone, as the uterus lies below this bone.

Massage gently lower and lower and pull your abdominal wall towards the navel. Holding this position, count to 10 and release your hands. Repeat this maneuver 10 to 20 times.

Do not do this if you are menstruating or pregnant. Also if possible, visit a massage therapist specializing in abdominal massage for better results.

  • Avoid food containing hormones. Try to avoid things like animal meat as they contain hormones which can affect a woman’s hormones like estrogen. Replace them with foods that are high in anti-oxidants to help promote healing.

Foods that are high in anti-oxidants are fresh fruits, vegetables (all kinds), vegetable oils like sunflower oil, safflower oil, coconut oil, mustard seed oil (olive oil being the richest).

Tea, chocolate, soy, coffee, oregano and cinnamon are high on flavonoids (a type of antioxidant).

Carotenoids are plant enzymes that have anti-oxidant activity and can cut down the free-radical build up in the body. Carotenoids can be stocked up by eating eggs, red-yellow fruits and vegetables like carrots, mangoes, bell peppers, papayas, citrus fruits, spinach, zucchini, etc.

A Healthy Lifestyle with Multiple Sclerosis

Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle with Multiple Sclerosis

Exercise

If you have multiple sclerosis (MS), exercise can help retain flexibility and balance, promote cardiovascular fitness and a sense of well-being, and prevent complications from inactivity. Exercise also helps regulate appetite, bowel movements and sleep patterns.

Jogging, walking and aerobic exercises are helpful when strength and coordination are not affected. Stationary bicycle riding may be more practical if walking or balance is impaired. Swimming is helpful for stretching and cardiovascular fitness. Yoga and Tai Chi are most useful for stretching and promoting a sense of well-being. Your physical and occupational therapists will assist you in selecting the best exercise program for you to follow.

Stress Reduction

Although stress cannot be totally eliminated from our lives, we can learn to manage it more effectively. Any reduction in stress will be associated with an improved sense of well-being and increased energy. A psychologist or social worker may be helpful in developing a stress management program that is tailored to your needs. The following are some useful stress reduction techniques:

  • Identify causes of stress in your life and share your thoughts and feelings.

  • Simplify your responsibilities by setting priorities.

  • Try relaxation and meditation exercises.

  • Manage your time and conserve your energy.

  • Ask for help when needed.

  • Set both short-term and life goals for yourself.

  • Keep as active as possible both physically and mentally.

  • Recognize the things that you cannot change and don’t waste your time trying.

  • Make time for fun activities and maintain your sense of humor.

Nutrition

Good nutrition maximizes your energy, general sense of well-being and healing capacities. A dietary routine also contributes to regular bowel habits. Although no specific diet has been demonstrated to conclusively improve the natural history of MS, most people do report an improved sense of well-being when following a carefully planned diet. Several published diets are healthful and easy to follow. Others are more restrictive and less practical.

There’s good evidence that eating a healthy diet can reduce your risk of:

  • obesity

  • diabetes

  • heart disease

  • stroke

  • osteoporosis

  • some types of cancer

Vitamin and Mineral Supplements

Unless there is a specific vitamin deficiency found by your doctor there is no scientific proof that supplementary doses of vitamins or minerals, alone or in combination, favorably affect the course of the disease. Be careful not to take excessive doses of synthetic vitamin B6. Oleic and Linoleic Acids

These fatty acids have been reported to be deficient in MS patients. There is an unconfirmed suggestion that supplementary feeding of these fatty acids may slightly reduce the frequency of MS attacks. These fatty acids are contained in sunflower seed oil and primrose oil. The former is much cheaper and readily available in grocery stores. Two tablespoons of sunflower seed oil each day will provide you with these fatty acids and give you the added benefit of a laxative.

Skin Care

If you have problems with mobility, muscle contractures or are confined to a wheelchair, you should check your skin regularly for sores, pressure spots, infections and abrasions. Regular skin care will minimize the chances of skin breakdown and help you to avoid complications such as a decubitus ulcer. Be sure to check the pressure points on your body including your heels, knees, hips, buttocks and elbows. Remember to protect against skin cancer by wearing sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors, whether it is sunny or not. Get familiar with your skin and examine it frequently.

Urinary Tract Infections

Vitamin C helps to acidify the urine and prevent the growth of bacteria. Fresh Orange juice or vitamin C tablets are both useful. Cranberry juice also will acidify the urine and is available as a sugar free juice for those who count calories. If you develop new urinary frequency, burning when you urinate or have difficulty passing your urine, you should call your doctor and be seen for the possibility of a urinary tract infection.

Vaccinations

There has traditionally been a concern that immunizations could worsen MS by stimulating the immune system. With the exception of transient worsening associated with fever or rare neurological complications known to be associated with certain vaccines, there is no convincing evidence that immunizations make MS patients worse. If immunizations are recommended by a doctor, they can probably be undertaken safely. In general, immunizations should be delayed if the person is experiencing an acute MS attack. However, in some circumstances, such as when urgent vaccinations for tetanus or rabies are required, immunizations should be given immediately. If questions arise, you should discuss them further with your neurologist.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy (PT) focuses on ways to preserve or improve safety and independence with functional mobility. This may be accomplished through a variety of approaches including:

  • Mobility technique training

  • Home exercise programs

  • Caregiver training

  • Effective use of adaptive equipment

The following are examples of PT therapeutic strategies that help everyday management of mobility-related symptoms.

  • Exercise Categories — You and a physical therapist should develop an individualized exercise program that is based on your current needs and future goals. This may include yoga, exercises in a gym, tai chi or Feldenkrais, as well as traditional forms of exercise such as running, walking, biking, swimming or water aerobics. In some cases, exercises can be carried out independently, with or without modification. In other instances, certain more challenging exercises may require some assistance.

  • Stretching — Frequently, persons with MS have spasticity, especially in their lower extremities. This can cause the legs to stiffen if a regular stretching program is not incorporated into the daily routine of activities. Stretching exercises help to maintain or improve muscle length to allow greater flexibility.

  • Coordination — Coordination exercises are done to improve balance and ease of purposeful movement. The degree of skill required to perform the exercises varies. An appropriate program will be discussed with the individual MS patient.

  • Strengthening — Strengthening exercises are designed to build weakened muscles to aid in moving and walking. While being beneficial, discretion is advised when carrying out a strengthening program. For instance, if one has undergone a vigorous session of exercising but is too tired to prepare dinner or do chores that ordinarily can be done without difficulty, it may be necessary to modify the program or space the activity more evenly throughout the day.

  • Upper Body Exercises — These simple exercises are designed to promote flexibility and muscle balance as well as to enhance upper extremity function. If done correctly, they are appropriate for all stages of MS. Stretches are to be done slowly, generally being held for approximately five to 10 seconds. These exercises can be performed either seated or lying on your back. Repeat each exercise five to 10 times on each side as tolerated. You can do one side at a time or both sides at the same time.

How To Eat when You Have Gout and Diabetes – Part 1

It’s possible to suffer from both gout and diabetes at the same time. People with both gout and diabetes are advised to avoid foods that may affect the levels of uric acid and insulin in the body. Therefore, recommended diets for this group focus on lowering both uric acid and blood sugar levels.

Changing Your Eating Habits

1.Eat six small meals per day. This should include three regular meals and three snacks in between meals. General dietary guidelines for diabetic persons include:

  • Carbohydrates should provide 45 – 65% of total daily calories.
  • Fats should provide 25 – 35% of daily calories.
  • Protein should provide 12 – 20% of daily calories.

2.Calculate how much food from each food group you can eat. Basically, carbohydrates and protein each provide 4 calories per gram, while fat provides 9 calories in each gram.

For example, if you have eaten 100 grams of fat in a meal, then the number of calories consumed is 900 (9 multiplied by 100). If you have eaten 100 grams of protein, then you have consumed 400 calories (4 multiplied by 100). If you have eaten 200 grams of carbohydrates, then you have consumed 800 calories (4 multiplied by 200).
Once you know the number of calories from fat, carbohydrates, and protein, add them up to get the total calories for that day. So 900 + 400 + 800 = 2100 calories. After this, you can now determine the percentage of calories you have consumed.

To do this, divide the number of calories from each nutrient by the total number of calories for that day and multiply it by 100. So, for fat: (900/2100) x 100 = 42.8 percent. For protein: (400/2100) x 100 = 19 percent.

For carbohydrates: (800/2100) x 100 = 38 percent.
Once you are aware of the general dietary guidelines for diabetic persons using this basic computation, you can easily tell if your diet falls in the normal range.

3. Eat 45-60 grams of carbohydrate with each meal. In order to guide you, according to the American Diabetes Association, there are about 15 grams of carbohydrate in:

  • 200 ml of milk or orange juice
  • 6 to 8 hard candies
  • ¼ French fry
  • 1 cup of soup
  • 1 small piece of fruit (about 4 oz)
  • 1 slice of bread
  • ½ cup of oatmeal
  • 1/3 cup of rice or pasta
  • 4 to 6 crackers
  • ½ hamburger bun
  • 3 oz of baked potato
  • 2 small cookies
  • 2 inches (5.1 cm) of cake without frosting
  • 6 chicken nuggets
  • ½ cup of casserole

4. Eat 0.8 grams of good-quality protein per kilogram of body weight each day. For example, if your weight is 64 kilograms, the recommended protein intake is 51.2 grams (0.8 multiplied by 64). Good-quality protein sources are defined as those that have PDCAAS (Protein Digestibility–Corrected Amino Acid Scoring Pattern) scores[10]. This is essentially a grading scale for protein, with 1 being the highest score and 0 being the lowest. Here is a breakdown of the common proteins and their PDCAAS score:

  • 1.00 for casein, soy products, egg white, whey
  • 0.9 for beef and soybeans
  • 0.7 for black beans, chickpeas, fruits, vegetables, and legumes
  • 0.5 for cereals and peanuts
  • 0.4 for whole wheat

5. Get 25 – 35% of your daily calories from fats. For diabetics, 1500 to 1800 total calories is the ideal daily intake. Fat provides 9 calories per gram. To compute for the daily recommended intake in grams: if the diabetic patient has a diet of 1500 calories per day for example, then multiply 1500 by 0.25 and .35 to get a range of 375 to 525, then divide each by 9. So 375/9 = 41.6, and 525/9 = 58.3.
This gives you a range of 41.6 to 58.3 grams of fat per day. For diabetics, healthy fats such as Omega-3 fatty acids are recommended.

6. Avoid skipping meals. This can lead to hypoglycemia or low blood sugar levels because the body uses up the stored blood glucose in the body when it cannot get energy from food.

7. Eat meals and snacks at the same time every day. This will help your body to develop a routine in terms of its consumption of glucose from foods. This helps to prevent the occurrence of either high blood glucose or low blood glucose levels.
